January Snow Fly-In Report
January Snow Fly-In Well, we held our first Winter fly-in of the season as scheduled on Jan 11th. It was snowing, cold and blowing and we had four inches of new powder snow on the field! However, a small number of hardy flyers did manage to make it. Wayne and I arrived before 8 am and got the tarp in place and a nice fire in wood stove. Believe me, we needed both as the day progressed! Other members showing up were Paul F., Bob C., Roland W., and a friend of Bobs. During the day, Art G. made a short appearance to deliver an engine to Paul and Gary G. stopped by for a visit later in the day. Very little flying took place. Both Wayne and I got in a flight with electrics and Bob finally managed to launch Paul's Tower Hobbies Vista sailplane for its maiden flight. Both Wayne and I each managed a flight with it. Very cold looking into the wind flying these planes upwind so we spent more time talking than anything else. It was not uncomfortable in the shelter of the tarp with the stove. With the wind chill, it was about 8 below! After a nice lunch of grilled hot dogs and onions and the flights of the Vista, we called it a day. The sky was finally clearing by this time and the sun was coming out. ~~ Joe
