March NO Snow Fly-In Report
KVMA Spring Fly-In March 7, 2010 This was originally scheduled to be a Snow Fly-In but due to the total lack of snow and that fact it was quite warm we renamed it as above! The day started just below freezing with a bright blue sky. When I left at 3:00 pm, it was 54 degs according to my truck temp gauge. The slight breeze early in the day turned into a 5 to 10 mph wind later in the morning. I arrived just before 8:00 to find Wayne just about ready for his first flight. By 8:05, he was in the air with his bipe, the "White Bros Flying Circus". The sound of that engine makes me miss my four stroke planes! I got in my first flight of the day shortly after with my ULD foamy. Both of us got some more flights before anyone else arrived. We had a great turnout with many pilots and quite a number of spectators enjoying the day. Several members we don't normally see during this time of the year also turned out to enjoy the weather. Sam, Jim, and believe it or not, Art Aubé showed up! A great variety of aircraft were flown as the day progressed from foamies to helicopters. Jasser, Jeff, and Bob all flew helicopters. Sailplanes were catching rides into the sky aboard Roland's, Bob's and my "tugs". Bob carried one to well over 800 ft according to his altimeter. No great long flights were achieved but we all had fun. Larry V. brought lunch goodies thanks to his wife!! We consumed over four pounds of hot dogs along with both raw and cooked onions, sauerkraut, and chips. Thanks, Mrs Larry! Joe
