January Snow Fly-In Report
January Snow Fly-In Our first scheduled snow fly-in of the year took place Jan 23rd under bright sunlight and cold temperatures but without any wind to speak of. I arrived at 7:30 just in case we had to clear snow to access the field and a good thing as the parking area had not been plowed. I cleared a space for Paul's vehicle so he could unload the wood stove and wood supply. Wayne normally brings these items but he is feeling ill so Paul picked them up in Anson last evening. We had the stove and tarp in place shortly after 9:00 am. We probably didn't need either as the wind just never came up. I had already flown my LT-25 for the first flight of the day waiting for Paul. Members arrived throughout the morning and Paul counted thirteen present at one time or another. Paul, Larry L., Carroll, Greg, Roland, Bob C., Ron G., Jay., Matt., Jasser., Larry V., Chris and myself. Hopefully, I didn't miss anyone. Not all brought planes and just came to visit but we did see a lot of flying of electrics, glow, a helicopter, and sailplanes. Many different planes flew during the day so I know most got in a number of flights taking advantage of the beautiful weather. Bob Chapman made the maiden flights with Carroll's Nexstar on the runway we had packed down with snowshoes. He also made the maiden flight of his LT-40 with a glider aboard using the road as a runway as he had wheels on and he also spent some time with Jasser on his helicopter. We had a lunch of hot dogs cooked on the club grill and that worked out well. Greg made a store run to pick up some more hot dogs and rolls. Thanks, Greg. And the flying continued for a while. I think it was a bit after 2:00 pm when Roland and I left and Jay was still at the field. A very successful fly-in.
